Published - 1 December 2024

Earlier in the season Garnock took the win at Rubislaw by a narrow 3 point margin in an entertaining and high scoring match.

The return league fixture was no less exciting with the teams sharing 14 tries, this time AGR emerging the victors by the same 3 point margin after the lead had changed several times before the final whistle.

In AGR's first ever visit to Lochshore, they got off to a quick start and were leading 0-14 after 10 minutes following tries by Scot Byars and Nathan Alexander. Both were converted by Dan McElderry.

Garnock's powerful forwards got one back after a catch and drive from a line out after 11 minutes however AGR's response was a sweeping backs move from our own 22 which saw Craig Shepherd over. The conversion by Dan MeElderry gave AGR a 7-21 lead mid-way through the first half.

AGR went off the boil and conceded 3 tries to fall 26-21 behind at half time. They conceded another 2 tries after the restart to find themselves 40-21 after 50 minutes however then managed to reorganise in defence and start the comeback.

AGR's forwards were now on the front foot and providing clean ball for the backs to exploit. Exciting moves were finished by Ben Renton, Craig Shepherd and then Daniel Blake, with Dan McElderry continuing his fine kicking form, including one conversion from way out on the touchline.

The score was now level at 40-40 after 60 minutes and a successful penalty by Dan McElderry gave AGR the lead 40-43.

Garnock weren't done however and their forwards again drove over the line from a lineout catch. With the conversion, Garnock were back in the lead at 47-43 with 5 minutes to go however AGR went straight back on the attack and after being camped for several minutes on the Garnock line, Jack Burnett finally went over to the team's and supporters delight. Dan McElderry kicked the conversion and AGR were 47-50 in the lead.

It was backs to the wall for the final few minutes as Garnock piled on the pressure however AGR's defence held out and the referee's whistle sounded for full time.
