Duncan Milne's running the 2026 London Marathon!

Published - 5 October 2025

I’m Duncan and next April I’m running the London Marathon.  I’m taking the opportunity to raise money for two local organisations that play a big part in both my and my family’s life....North East Sensory Service Youth Program (NESS) and Aberdeen Grammar Rugby Mini Section (AGR).

As a father of two deaf children, they’ve both benefited greatly from the Youth Program at NESS.  NESS provides, amongst other things, a range of activities during the school holidays that allow kids with sensory impairments to experience things that they may otherwise not be able to, such as sailing, rock climbing and residential weeks, where kids get the chance to be themselves and mix with others with similar impairments.

My son Fergus, now in P7, has been with AGR since P1 and, after covid, I thought I’d try my hand at coaching rather than freeze on the sidelines. It’s very challenging but also rewarding when the kids put into practice what we’ve been trying to teach them.

I’ve always been into sports but when it came to running it was usually with a ball at my feet or in my hands.  I didn’t really start road running until 2010, partly to increase my fitness for my involvement with Scottish Touch but also as my partner competed in 10k's, so it gave me something to train for.  Since then I’ve completed quite a few 10k's and a couple of Half Marathons, but London will be my first and most likely only Marathon.  I used to watch it on TV as a boy and thought one day I’d like to do that.

Well, that day is just over 30 weeks away now so any money you can spare would be greatly appreciated and keep me motivated as I pound the streets over winter.  It will also allow NESS to continue providing activities for sensory impaired kids and AGR to purchase much needed training aids/equipment so the kids can get the best training we can provide.  All the money raised will be split evenly between both groups.

Thank you.
