Aberdeen Grammar’s hopes of promotion from National 1 look over already after the Rubislaw side slid into the relegation area, four games into a campaign which has brought three losses and one draw from four starts.
A hugely frustrated coach Stuart Corsar viewed the league from second bottom place after the league’s newcomers Marr had scored 43 points against a limited, ill-disciplined Grammar side who must improve in a hurry if they are not to be relegated again. “We were pretty slick in the backs, scoring some good tries, but were unable to secure our own ball up front,” said Corsar.
“It will be a hard week in training. Our discipline was also poor. In four games we have picked up four yellow cards, and a red. The red card for Ed Nimmons in this game and the sin-binning of Colin Neilson were crucial to the outcome.”
Grammar had started brightly, racing into a 17-10 lead in 20 minutes on the back of tries from captain and flanker Greig Ryan, winger Peceli Nacamavuto and scrum half Morgan Ward, one of which was converted by stand off Alex Hagart. The pace of the game picked up going into the break with Colin Neilson claiming a fourth try and a welcome try bonus point for Grammar.
Hagart added the extras to make the visitors’ total 24, but Marr were up to the challenge, easing into a 25-24 lead at half-time.
The second half belonged to the Fullarton Park side who took their total to 43, aided by the dismissal of Nimmons for unfair use of his hands.
A late try from full back Sean Murray and a penalty from Hagart gave the score line respectability, but this was a bad day for Grammar.
