Scottish Rugby are encouraging youth players (15 years old +), club leaders and coaches to attend our upcoming sessions delivered by Show Racism the Red Card.
Show Racism the Red Card is the UK’s leading anti-racist education charity. The campaign works within schools, workplaces, community organisations, and sport to spread the message of active anti-racism. They provide the knowledge, skills, and support for learners to leave a session confident in their abilities to recognise, respond to, and report racism wherever they encounter it.
Aberdeen Sports Village, 2nd of September, 7 pm – 8:30 pm
The upcoming session will look to expand your understanding of some of the core concepts of anti-racism. To do this, a range of case studies, centred upon testimonies of people with lived experience of Racism will be explored. Some of these will be specific to professional rugby, while others will be relevant to Scottish sport and society more broadly. You will be supported and encouraged in small groups to reflect on these case studies, using the anti-racist terms and concepts introduced within the session, and then collaboratively discuss potential responses. Ultimately, our goal is to grow your confidence to talk about race and racism, and ensure you are comfortable challenging it.
Participants can be assured that a supportive and empathetic learning environment is created during these sessions. All conversations during the session will be facilitated by experienced anti-racist educators who will work tirelessly to ensure that everyone feels included and at ease wherever possible. Whilst participation is encouraged throughout, there is no pressure on individuals to speak, and no-one is here to catch anyone out.
The workshop will cover the following:
• Foundational Racial Literacy/Anti-Racism Core Concepts
• Maintaining Inclusive Culture
• Recognising and Responding to Racism
• Unconscious Bias
• Micro Aggressions and Privilege
